Solar advice

Solar self-consumption in Morocco: preparing your project

Solar self-consumption means using electricity from your photovoltaic panels in your own building. Before choosing the system size, understand when you use electricity and what your roof can accommodate.

1. Gather bills and usage times

Prepare twelve months of bills and list daytime equipment: air conditioning, pumps, refrigeration and machinery. Monthly totals do not describe hourly demand; buildings with identical annual consumption can need different systems.

2. Match generation and direct consumption

Panels generate when daylight is available. Direct consumption requires generation and demand at the same time. Moving suitable activities to sunny hours can improve this match, while respecting equipment and business constraints.

3. Have the roof assessed

A technical visit should check usable area, shade, structure and waterproofing. A midday observation is insufficient: neighbouring buildings or chimneys cast shadows at other times. Ask the installer to explain the simulation assumptions.

4. Compare system sizes

The largest system is not automatically the best. Request scenarios showing estimated generation, direct use and surplus. Confirm surplus arrangements, connection requirements and procedures with the relevant operator in Morocco before signing.

5. Assess batteries separately

Storage can shift some solar electricity to later hours. Its value depends on evening demand, usable capacity, losses and cost. Power during an outage requires a compatible backup configuration; a battery alone does not guarantee it.

Frequently asked questions

Can solar remove the entire bill? This cannot be promised without a study: night-time use, seasons, fixed charges and sizing affect the result. For a first discussion, provide bills, your city, roof photos and your main equipment list.
